What’s Eating Ryan Tubridy?

Here’s Ryan Tubridy, again demonstrating his confusion about the concept of wit. You see, for some reason, Tubridy thinks he’s quick-witted and smart, when all he is is an arrogant, smug, immature prick. His supercilious tone towards people of higher intelligence or lower social status is grating. Note in this clip the sheer awkwardness of the man. With the arms rigidly pressed to his sides like a toy soldier, Ryan might well have been dipped in a vat of starch before he went on air. And you thought Pat Kenny was cringeworthy. Ryan, you’re a veritable Quentin Crisp with your impeccably timed digs at teenage girls. Bravo!

The most painful thing to watch is his creepy, condescending interaction with female guests and audience members. And stop banging the damn table.

Yeah, you are right BMD. Something very pervy about Ryan Tubs at times. I wouldn’t like to leave my baby sister in his company for too long…

Of course his presence in Montrose has nothing to do with the fact that he is a direct relation of the South Dublin FF Andrews dynasty, who may or may not have gotten him an entre to RTE in his teens.

Anways, I liked the assertive kid who had invented the cheap stove though. I’m guessing he was adopted from Vietnam or somewhere in South East Asia, otherwise Kerry is a lot more ethnically diverse than I had ever assumed…

    • I hear you. A quite unpleasant man. He can scarcely hide his contempt for those a tad more mature and intelligent than himself. Annoying how he is offered up as an example of some sort of intellectual, while really he is of average intelligence and notoriously conservative when it comes to his tastes in books, films, music, etc. No surprise he didn’t like The Wire. He prefers the odd bit of Sex and the City.

That kid was very confident, he should take over the show. He’s definitely going to buy and sell all of our asses within the next few years.

No no no, I have a better one for you. Got to last night’s edition of The Frontline and advance to 50 minutes in. Pat K completely dismisses man’s point by referring to his sexuality.

    • Eoin, I saw that. I don’t think he dismissed the man’s point, he mentioned gay marriage and Pat then said the law will need to be changed for that and moved on, which kind of resembled some sort of dismissal but I honestly didn’t see it that way. I took it that he was just moving on quickly to the next point.

I honestly didn’t see a problem with most of Ryan Tubridys banter, but that comment he made during the girls performance really grated on me. She should have gotten up and sawed his head off just for that alone. He could have easily included it after she finished instead of being an ignorant prick about it, while she was playing.

As for the Frontline clip…. I think Pat Kenny is a bit like the personification of Microsoft: “It’s Pat Kenny so it must be shit, even if it isn’t”. I didn’t see anything wrong with the way he handled it; the shows runtime is short, he needs to get everyones points in. During Questions & Answers John Bowman would often just say “Ok” to peoples points before moving on.

    • Pat Kenny 7 is a huge improvement on Pat Kenny Vista however. And I didn’t care much for John Bowman 2000.

      • GammagOblin says:

Definitely! Kenny 7 is much more like the decent Kenny XP. Kenny Vista was a major disaster and ruined the image of all Kenny versions in the eyes of the greater public. I never thought Bowman 2000 was all that bad, but for the purposes of a naughty joke… Bowman CE, the newer mini version of Bowman, was lambasted by many. It kept having Fatal Exceptions after constant crashing… down the stairs and off kitchen stools. I liked it though.

  4. Props for going where I didn’t dare!
