Get out of my house.
Turkish coffee is delicious, addictive and fun to make. This is what is left after all the coffee water is consumed – you get a thick brown paste which is gritty if you slurp too far. I don’t know how the tissue paper got in there.
I love baking things because I get to eat them, and they are pretty easy to whip up from basic things you have in your cupboard. The internet is a great place to find really nice recipes for all sorts of confectionery, and one of the best bits about the whole process is looking at the tasty pictures. Though one thing that I find very irritating when I come across a recipe on an American site is that they have a great fondness for using “cake mixes”. They seem to have a wider variety than us when it comes to cakes-in-a-sachet. Anytime that I have made cookies, brownies or cakes from a packet, they taste like crap. So it really pisses me off when I find some recipe that looks great and I scroll down to the ingredients, ready to get my wooden spoon out, and I see cake mix this, cake mix that, without any mention of the four basic components of a cake – eggs, butter, flour and sugar. Horrible! It just is not the same. I don’t think I would even call it baking.
