A very informative and interesting documentary was shown on More4, part of the True Stories series. Yoav Shamir, through film, explores the question “What is anti-Semitism Today?”. I have always wondered why the term anti-Semitic is used so loosely, in describing anyone who criticises Israel’s policies and actions. The psychology and indoctrination of the threat of anti-Semitism goes much deeper than I ever imagined.
There is one particular scene I found very disturbing. A group of Israeli teenagers on an excursion to Auschwitz are told not to talk to any of the local people, because they are hated. They will have no contact with any other teenagers and are not allowed out of their rooms. Anyone found talking to strangers is scolded.
I recently watched a fascinating documentary by ‘truthteller’ Ted Pike on YouTube*. I started watching it because the Judaic scholarly tradition is something I’ve always found interesting. I continued watching however because it developed into the most extreme display of paranoid anti-semitism I have ever seen. Everything from the Wall Street crash to the Bolshevik revolution was engineered by jews, bent on the erosion of Western Christian values.
Now what I’ve seen time and time again is the centrality of the dastardly jew within the world view of the ultra right-wing christian sects. But why aren’t these the guys that the ADL and the pro-Israel club go after? Why is it the predominantly secular Western and Northern European societies that are depicted as havens of rampant anti-semitism?
The truth is that it has sweet f**k all to do with anti-semitism. Anti-semetic Europe is the prism through which Israelis are encouraged to see the world because it is politically convenient. And the more extreme the ruling clique in Israel the more widely the anti-semitism slur is sprayed around. As much as fear of anti-semitism may be increasingly portrayed as central to Israeli culture, there should be no doubt about who is fanning the flames, an more importantly why they are doing it.
*The Other Israel – Truly bizarre, more than anything else because of the kindly, gentle fashion in which Jews are depicted as the greatest threat humanity has ever faced. After you’ve been watching it for a while and the guy is detailing the Jewish plot that created communism you really do have to stop and ask “How the hell did he get onto this?”
I just had a peek at the video on Youtube, even from the description it reeks of craziness. You are right, these are the kind of people the ADL should be investigating. Some pretty nasty comments on the video, but that is to be expected on Youtube.
