Quite a large percentage of the administrative drones in Dublin City Council are big turnipheads. They make the drones in Cork City Council look good. Put THAT in your pipe and have sex with it.
There you go. That’s all I wanted to say.

Oh to be an administrative drone with a pension and pay increments, and nobody can sack you regardless of how utterly shit you are at your job!
The turnipheads are probably the clever ones!
DCC tire me out, because I get sick of always having to teach them how to do their jobs.
Wow – you’re not wrong BMD.
I had the misfortune to work for a local Council in Dublin years ago. It was my first real job after Uni.
Whilst some colleagues were normal, funny, lovely folks and did their best in difficult circumstances, I have to say that the amount of lazy scumbags, patent alcholics, manic depressives, bullies and generally nasty people would have to be seen to be believed.
I reckon a good 25% of the public service would be immediately booted out on their asses if they ever attempted to work in the private sector.
This went right through the organization, almost to the top. Promotion was impossible unless you came from the ‘right county’ and loved GAA.
I remember one lovely moment when I got a slap on the wrist for trying to allow an elderly lady on a Zimmer frame to come to pay her water charges bill at 1 minute past four PM. I was meant to lock the doors at 4 exactly.
She had spent 2 hours getting to the office from her home, and another 2 getting home, without being allowed to pay her bill.
Fortunately I got out of there after a couple of years, but still have the scars…
The best way to deal with them is to kick up a calm-mannered fuss, ask to see their supervisor, point out that you as a citizen are paying their wages etc. – they don’t like that at all…
!
It’s depressing how the intelligent, conscientious, ambitious people are drowned out by the inept management and bored pencil-pushers. There’s so much dead wood, especially in the upper levels. But the guys on the lower scales always get the chop and receive most of the abuse. Very common in Irish life.
As the Wire’s Omar would have put it: ‘True that”.
Ironically, I just got a text from a friend who is a public servant. He has been off work (on full pay) since May, “suffering from stress”. Wonder what he is doing partying his ass off in Barcelona right now?
