Gay Byrne (or Mick Lally) could play Pope Benedict. Twink could play the pope’s mother, Linda Martin his sister; and Ronan Keating as the younger lover.
Of course, Johnny Logan would need to have a bit part, as an apparently nice bishop, who holidays regularly in Turkey, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Phillipines.
Popular singer Brian Kennedy would be perfect as the Papal Nuncio.
I’m really seeing Gay Byrne as Pope Benedict. In fact, there’s some impressive casting going on there. Johnny Logan’s bishop character will be a tired, emotional bishop, who used to be appreciated in Ireland for his bishop-skills but is now washed-up and appreciated non-ironically only in Germany, Scandinavia and the Ukraine.
