Hopkins was a brilliant poet, and though he did write quite a bit on his love of god etc, that does not put me off reading his poetry, which I think contains some of the most beautiful sentences I have ever read.

I agree with your ‘love of god’ comment; I’m not deterred either. His wonderful use of imagery triumphs over his poetry’s content.
